"Around here we just love people and cool things." Michele
Gone are the days of walking into a consignment shop greeted by the stale smell of old unloved items and a weary staff that barely says "hello".
The Stock Exchange is different, since its grand re-opening
on June 9, 2012 across from the Piccadilly Public House, The George Washington Hotel and just two blocks up from the Walking Mall in downtown Winchester-- it has made what antique lovers and pickers
call a real "vintage hip" difference.
We are in the business of helping people simplify their lives by getting rid of the items that they no longer need or want. Our goal is to make it easy and profitable for them to get rid of stuff and make money to boot!
Once these unwanted items are out of the way they can make a fresh start andperhaps for the first time in their lives begin surrounding themselves with only what they truly love. We offer a 50% consignor split over a 60-90 day period.
Many consider us a real come to spot for getting ideas and the skills to
"repurpose what was once loved and redefining its look to work for today..."
We hope to soon be offering workshops to our customers like:
" Interior Me-sign "and "Chalk Paint 101"
Its amazing to realize what a difference intention can make.
Like a recently chalk painted item a beat up veneered wooden piece
that had long been forgotten and suddenly is...
This is powerful.
Decorating and making our homes and wardrobes authentic is daunting-- but this shop is a diamond in the rough... boasting a one of a kind atmosphere of vintage hip items from all over the country for its customers.
Most loved and noted is the pleasantly unique merchandise and relaxing feel.
Former patrons may recall that the shop existed in years past
and was located in in the stone cottage at Millwood Ave (2004 -2006)
Finally after discovering the ideal space to re-open this time, the owner is back at it with great enthusiasm. Just this spring, she added several antique vendors in her fully fenced in rear parking area. Antiques, industrial, garden pieces, patio seating galore can be found in the rear barn area that she fondly refers to as The Stock Yard.
Here customers walk through early 19th century barns amid pieces needing a little TLC or just awaiting their entrance into the main shop. All these factors combined make coming to The Stock Exchange a definite adventure and full on hunt for the fabulous !
One woman who stopped in for her first time at the new location said:
" This shop is truly amazing ... I love it ! the prices are pleasantly reasonable
and it's designed and decorated better than many of the fancy shops I
frequent in Old Town, Alexandria or along M street in Georgetown."
Frances ~ June 2012
The Stock Exchange has an upbeat atmosphere and an eclectic mix of old and new.. for those who like the old fashioned shopping atmosphere they will be delighted with the 1920's vintage cash register... and after the screen door slams with that old familiar sound of grandmas farmhouse ...
Customers are greeted by good music...
fresh flowers... and an ever changing stock of vintage hip, home decor, antiques and great finds ...for their home, garden, wardrobe...and world.
First and foremost, in their business plan it states that " the Stock Exchange's mission is to make a positive difference in downtown Winchester, to support arts ,creativity and the community as a whole.
"Our passion is inspiring people to live the life they were meant to live. " Michele
Living in New England, as a young mother of four in her twenties the owner fell madly in love with this little seaside consignment shop in town called Manchester By the Sea.
She soon became a regular and discovered that the shop was owned by a woman who had started it in the early 80's keeping the days shop sales money in an old cigar box. Michele wrote an article for the local paper and raved about the place. Looking into it, she discovered that the shop's name was not trademarked-- so she secretly hoped that someday (with that shop owners blessing) she would be given the chance to replicate this divine little place.
At thirty, she and her husband moved back to her home of Virginia to a 6 bedroom farmhouse in Berryville
and she became the mother to four more children.
All the while holding onto the dream... she collected pretty and interesting things. Fueled by an avid imagination and loving the thought of someday to being able to offer other women those " special finds that delight the soul. "
The original Stock Exchange Shop is located in Manchester by the Sea, a small beach town on the North Shore of Massachusetts. Still in business after 24 years now-- this unique one of a kind consignment shop is still is well loved and full of great finds. If you are ever up North .... you just MUST stop in... and enjoy!
You won't be disappointed... Oh and before you head out on your travels...
Come by and see us ....you won't be disappointed here either.
