My Blog

I don't know if you are like me... but I am nostalgic. I've always known that but was reminded just yesterday walking into the local pool that we belong to. It was 98 degrees and humid. Getting straight into the pool was my goal but there it was it caught my eye just as I went to tuck in the top edges of my towel under the plastic lounge straps...that little kidney shaped baby pool ...empty and still. All of a sudden I found my mind racing back in time seeing my tall tanned high school graduate when he was about 2 in his striped swimmy diapers. Remembering how paranoid I was- afraid that I'd turn my head and he'd fall face down into the water so intent on chasing after that bright green motor boat his grandmother gave him. Wow--it felt like yesterday for just a second. Why is it that I never seem to be able to get over how fast time passes ? I mean, I can still remember the days of my youth when the months of summer seemed never ending. And how I couldn't wait to finally be old enough to not have to order off of the kids menu. I miss the slowness of days. I miss the sounds of the ice cream truck breaking the otherwise boring afternoons on Sundays, when only the old black and white classics were shown. Children keep us on our toes they say...i guess if that's the case then I've been on my tippy toes for years dancing as fast as I can. But now sometimes my nostalgia catches me by surprise. It happens at moments like at the pool yesterday and this afternoon when he sits back in the Chilli's booth after we steal away for a quick lunch between responsibilities and he says "Man, am I full " and smiles at me... that dimple of his in the same place on his right cheek just a smidge to the side melting me just like it did when he was a little boy in those striped plastic drawers.
